Mean Old Man

Ben wrote this in 1970 after his son Willy, age three, had been doing things that Ben had disapproved of. Willy then had a nightmare about a man who looked like Ben and scratched his feet with sandpaper.

Hear Ben sing this song

Am                    G, Am  after “man,” and stay in Am

I’m a mean old man

G, Am  after “no,” and stay in Am

And I always say no

G, Am  after “you,” and stay in Am

And I’m always watching you

G          Am       G, Am  after “go,” and stay in Am

Wherever you go

G, Am  after “room,” and stay in Am

I come into your room

G                 Am      G, Am  after “asleep,” and stay in Am

When you’re fast asleep

                          Dm

And late in the night

       F                  Am

I scratch at your feet
